Westar Building – Historic Tax Credits

2017/10/17 – We’re very proud to have helped Westar with many different projects over the last few years.  Recently we have helped them with a historic tax credit application project which should save the company over half a million dollars on a chiller replacement project.  Because the building is a contributing structure in the Downtown Topeka Historic District it is eligible for up to 20% federal tax credits and 25% state tax credits on contributing expenses.

For the chiller replacement project, Westar didn’t have to do anything different than they normally would for the remodel and the process was extremely easy.  This isn’t always the case, but if you have have a qualified professional to help you understand the requirements and costs, the tax credit process can be extremely positive.  If you work with a professional unfamiliar with the requirements and process, it can be expensive and stressful!  Historic districts can add enormous value to building owners!
