NOTO Ball Park Construction Nearly Complete

We helped Shawnee County Parks and Recreation and NOTO for some cost effective ways to add some impact in Breezeway Park (a thin alley like park connecting North Kansas Avenue and the back County parking lot). We presented several ideas to stakeholders in NOTO and the Parks Department and the popular concept was a park populated with concrete balls, murals and overhead string lights. The murals on the walls were completed by a local NOTO Artist. The parks department ordered the concrete balls and lights and had them installed. Eventually the concrete balls will be painted, but we’re kind-of digging the raw concrete look of the balls. One person we overheard said they thought they looked like “dinosaur eggs”.

Concrete balls are scattered across the park. Murals adorn the remnants of plaster on the masonry walls. Overhead string lights light the park/alley space creating an inviting connection between the NOTO Arts District and the adjacent parking lot.
